Study For FAA Part 107 Exam Free

If you are looking to use your drone for more than fun, you have probably thought about FAA Part 107 certification, which allows you to provide professional drone services. At first glance though the large number of regulations and procedures you must learn looks formidable. There are many very good online courses available, but these can be expensive, especially when considered in addition to the test fees.

However, there is a low cost way to study for your FAA Part 107 exam and pass first time. All the information you need to learn is freely available online in official FAA documents, even a practice test. I have listed below some of the key resources that you can jump to to start your studying.

The first key resource is the FAA Pilot’s Handbook of Aeronautical Knowledge This comprehensive handbook covers all aspects of being a pilot, from weather, airport operations, loading, risk management, aeronautical charts through to airspace requirements and more. Keep in mind though that it does cover requirements and regulations for flying all types of aircraft, not just drones, so there is much more than you need to learn to become a Remote Pilot in Command of a UAS.

To help you focus on the Drone/UAS applicable sections of the handbook, another key resource is the Remote Pilot ‒ Small Unmanned Aircraft Systems Airman Certification Standards document. Each knowledge area that could appear as a question in the Part 107 test is identified so you know what to study.

Another good resource is the Test Supplement that you will be provided with during the test. This will tell you the details regarding the aeronautical charts and is a useful reference during the test, so that you do not have to memorize it all.

Once you have some studying under your belt, it’s good to try sample questions to check if you are getting it. Again, the FAA has made a set of sample Part 107 Test questions available. Be careful though, these are samples only, the actual test questions will be different.

I have prepared a very useful FAA Part 107 Exam Study Guide which contains a comprehensive summary of all the points that you need to learn to pass the test. It goes step by step through all the required knowledge areas, so that you know exactly what you need to study and learn. The FAA Part 107 study guide also provides many additional sample questions, test taking tips and references.

Once you are confident in your knowledge base, you will need to go to the Integrated Airman Certification and Rating Application (IACRA) website to open an account and obtain an FTN number. Once you have this, you can go to the PSI Website which is the official test partner for the FAA Part 107 Test. Here you can sign up for the test using your FTN number. The cost of the test is currently $175. Do not sign up before you are confident you will be ready, as this fee is non refundable and you will need to pay it again to retake the test if you do not pass.

The test itself consists of 60 multiple choice questions that need to be answered in 2 hours. Pass level is 70%, so you need to answer 42 of them correctly to pass. 2 hours is plenty of time, so if you have done your homework and take your time, you will pass first time. Once you do, you can expand your drone experience significantly. Enjoy and good luck if you decide to go for it.
